IMPETUS as a response to the challenges of a future drone traffic management system

IMPETUS is a Project led by CRIDA and financed by SESAR via the European Comission’s H2020 program. Its objective is to study information management requirements for U-space, the future drone traffic management system for Europe.

U-space, once fully deployed, will require high levels of automatization and digitalization of information, which does not exist in today’s air traffic management system. In example, it will require high fidelity terrain models, micro-scale weather prediction algorithms and urban drone operations linked via the “smart cities” concept.

To assure that U-space will be an efficient and secure system for drone operations IMPETUS is investigating the benefits of new technologies for information management, such as artificial intelligence and micro-service based architectures – common tendencies in today’s cloud-based applications such as Netflix or Amazon.

Details about the project are available on the IMPETUS website and recently published in SESAR’s e-news bulletin.
